Andaman Islands Padauk
Andaman Islands Padauk
This Padauk from the Andaman Islands off the coast of India is so insanely beautiful, from the amazing color gradient spanning reds, to oranges, to yellows, to the iridescent chatoyance that sparkles in sunlight. The fact that these trees are no longer harvested from these islands due to low supply makes these 60 year old pieces even more special. Andaman Island Padauk is currently rated “Vulnerable” by the IUCN 3.1, however the good news is that they are no longer harvested commercially and grow rather fast which means they can make a reasonable comeback on the islands. The base is made from solid Eastern Black Walnut that has been ebonized on the sides with solid brass stringing inlay across the sides. Approximate size is 24”L x 7”W x 2”H and finished in food safe shellac
