As an artist, there are times when you realize that you need to let nature speak rather than your own design ideas; this was one of those cases. I received this UNBELIEVABLE piece of Ziricote from my good friend Mike Crotti and immediately thought that it mimicked nature, mountains over a vast earthscape; saving it for almost a year until the right project came around. To enhance the look, I added a brass medallion as a setting sun and set it atop a 2" thick slab of solid Black Walnut, which I partially ebonized to give it a dark sky. The Walnut base is also sculpted revealing a graceful arch over the 2+ feet of this serving board, with brass inlay running along the sides. Chamfered feet and a few coats of food safe osmo top oil finish the piece.
