Mid-Century Modern style, a classic “less is more” aesthetic. As I was designing this custom sushi board I was going for a more sophisticated, subdued, look combining elements of Asian influence with mid-century modern design. The stand that holds both the board and the soy sauce bowl is inspired from mid-century modern chair design. The bowl is turned from teak and is inlaid with a compass rose which was a special customer request. Bookmatched ziricote steals the show on the food surface, and underneath the board is sculpted out of 2" thick ebonized black walnut. Chopsticks are also made from continuous grain ziricote. The chopstick holder is a hand-carved blackwood puck. Finished in food safe @osmo_usa top oil and shellac. . . .
