Fishscale Sushi Board #2
Fishscale Sushi Board #2
Available! Exciting origins for this sophisticated sushi board: first off, it's a collaboration piece with the wonderfully talented potter @fabiennesynnott who I met on my recent trip to Quebec City. Fabienne hand made that amazing dark flecked soy sauce dish with organic rim, taking no shortcuts, even glazing the inside of the foot with a light blue surprise. The top of the board, a wonderfully neutral wood species called "Bay Laurel", derived from the @ucsc historic cooperage building which was used in lime manufacturing during the Gold Rush and came into my hands from @ventanasurfboards who are masters of reclaimed wood. They also designed and laser cut the fish scales from species including Maple, Bay Laurel, Cocobolo, Walnut, and Rosewood from @santacruzguitar offcuts. The fish scales start flat, fully inlaid, and gently creep up proud of the surface as their colors graduate from light to dark, gently sweeping up. There is also brass inlay framing the soy dish, and on the custom Wenge chopsticks. The back is slightly ebonized Black Walnut with round Asian style feet. Finished in pure tung oil and shellac.
